Our History . . .
Edwards
Construction Company
was founded by J.H. Edwards at Sulfur Springs, Arkansas in
1905. During that time, work was scarce and Mr. Edwards along
with his brothers also operated one of the earliest shingle
mills. The first house built by J.H. was a real "stand out"
because it was the first in the community to have exterior
paint. The paint had to be ordered through Sears and Roebuck
Company and J.H. rode by horse and buggy to meet the train
for the delivery. The years to follow brought more success,
a move to northwest Arkansas and a large family which included
son, Gerald. Gerald served in World War ll and returned to
take over the family business. Under Gerald's leadership,
Edwards Construction grew to be a very successful construction
business, building well over 300 custom homes in Western Arkansas
and Eastern Oklahoma. Like his father before him Gerald enjoyed
his work, which grew along with his family. David, as the
oldest son, naturally fell into a pattern set well before
him by his grandfather. He spent his summers working along
side his father, honing his craft and learning the value of
a job well done. Upon graduating from college, David began
to take a more active role in the company and today he and
his wife, Ann are the sole proprietors.
As
technology has increased, Edwards Construction moves forward
to include projects which incorporate the latest advancements.
David maintains traditional building methods and has also
built homes with solar energy fields, homes with geothermal
systems and incorporates computerized aided design. Staying
on top of the game is nothing new to Edwards Construction.
The 1905 painted house might not be much of a "stand out"
by today's standards, but the same philosophy that began Edwards
Construction is alive and well today. We have always been
and continue to be dedicated to excellence.
